Starting a Small Printing Business from Home? Here's What You Need to Know
Thinking of starting a printing business from home? You’re not alone
.
Many Filipinos today are turning their creativity and skills into profitable small printing businesses. Whether it’s making personalized notepads, magnets, photo souvenirs, or keychains—this kind of business can be done even in small spaces with a little setup and the right tools.
Here’s what I’ve learned after years of running and helping others build their own printing businesses.
1. You Don’t Need to Be a Graphic Designer
One of the biggest misconceptions is you need to be an expert in design. The truth is, there are tools like Canva and ready-made templates that can help you create beautiful layouts for your products without needing advanced skills. That’s exactly why I offer editable Canva templates—so you can save time and skip the overwhelm.
2. Know Your Costs and Pricing Early
Many new business owners don’t track their costs—and end up losing money.
You need to know:
How much your materials cost (paper, ink, magnets, glue, etc.)
What you spend on packaging and shipping
Platform fees (like Shopee or TikTok Shop)
And most importantly—how to price your products so you’re not working for free
I created a simple pricing calculator template for this—because this is one of the most common problems beginners face.
3. Learning is Ongoing (But Don’t Overthink It)
There’s so much to learn: layouts, marketing, customer service, and product photography. But don’t let that stop you from starting. Focus on one product first. Offer it to friends and family. Get feedback. Then slowly expand.
The goal is progress, not perfection.
