Top 5 Mistakes Beginners Make in the Printing Business (And How to Avoid Them)
Starting a printing business is exciting—but just like any business, there are common mistakes that can slow you down, or worse, cause you to lose money.

If you’re planning to start your own printing business at home (or already started), make sure to avoid these 5 beginner mistakes. I’ve made some of them myself, and I want to help you skip the struggle!
❌ 1. Not Knowing the Real Cost of Your Products
Most beginners price their products based on competitors or gut feel. But every business is different. You might be using a different kind of paper, ink, or packaging.
The fix? Track all your expenses—from paper, glue, electricity, printing errors, down to platform fees (Shopee, TikTok Shop). Then use a simple pricing calculator to set a price that gives you profit.
👉 Tip: I offer a printable pricing calculator template to help with this
❌ 2. Using Low-Quality Photos for Online Selling
Your product might be beautiful in person, but if your photo is dark, blurry, or poorly cropped—people won’t click it.
The fix? Take clear, bright, and clean photos. Use natural light. Show different angles. If possible, use Canva mockups to present your products like a pro.
❌ 3. Offering Too Many Products Too Soon
It’s tempting to sell everything at once: notepads, magnets, IDs, keychains… But this can lead to confusion, inventory issues, and burnout.
The fix? Start with 1–2 products. Master the process. Get feedback. Then slowly expand your offerings. Focus on quality, not quantity.
❌ 4. Ignoring Customer Service
Late replies, unclear instructions, or delayed deliveries can damage your reputation—even if your products are great.
The fix? Always communicate clearly. Use order forms or templates. Send updates. Be professional, even if you're just starting out.
❌ 5. Not Investing in Templates and Tools
Doing everything from scratch every time is exhausting and inefficient.
The fix? Use templates for layouts, invoices, social media posts, and product labels. They save you time and ensure consistency. That’s why I provide editable templates with MRR (resell rights) to help you save time and even earn more.
Thoughts
Mistakes are part of the journey—but you don’t have to make all of them. Learn from others, invest in the right tools, and stay consistent.
Your small printing business can grow, even from your home. I’m here to help you make that happen. 💛
